Sacramento to Dedicate Park to its Native Son LeVar Burton

District 8 Councilmember Larry Carr and the City of Sacramento invite the public to participate in LeVar Burton Day, which celebrates Mr. Burton, the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning host of children’s educational program Reading Rainbow, star of Roots and Star Trek: The Next Generation and native son of Sacramento.
On Tuesday, June 11, Councilmember Carr and the City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment department will host an official dedication ceremony of LeVar Burton Park, formerly Richfield Park, in the Meadowview neighborhood just blocks from where Mr. Burton grew up.
“Sacramento has imprinted itself on me in the most indelible way,” said Burton.
A special-resolution presentation affirming LeVar Burton Day in Sacramento will occur at the City Council meeting on the evening of June 11.
“Mr. Burton’s career accomplishment shows the possibilities that are open to all residents, no matter where they come from,” said Councilmember Larry Carr. “He is an inspiration to our youth, to people of our community and to everyone in Sacramento.”
Food trucks, music and more will be a part of the event.
