Hugh Ryan, author of When Brooklyn Was Queer, is working on a new volume of gay history, called Women’s House of Detention that will focus on the women mprisoned at the House of Detention, the former women’s prison at the end of Christopher Street, who among other things, chanted, “gay power, gay power!” from the windows of the prison during the Stonewall Uprising.
“Yet,” says Ryan, “Folks still debate if there were Lesbians involved in Stonewall!”
