Little to nothing of the plot is known of the upcoming Batgirl movie from Warner Bros. We know that it is currently shooting in Glasgow, Scotland and that it stars Michael Keaton as Batman and Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl.

We also know the film will see the debut of Dick Grayson in the DC Cinematic Universe.

Grace is fantastic fit but the presence of Dick Grayson/Nightwing is generating the most excitement. Grayson being part of the story suggests a romantic angle not unlike the one seen in Tom Taylor’s current run in the comics.

Actors rumored to have auditioned for Nightwing include Mena Massoud, Jacob Elordi, Ludi Lin, and Joshua Bassett, but Matt Ramos is a solid source and he says Dylan O’Brien has been cast.

The star of MTV’s Teen Wolf and The Maze trilogy is a solid choice for Dick, and O’Brien is an actor with impeccable genre familiarity and  acting chops.

And O’Brien’s deep connection to Keaton from American Assassin would make it seem fait accompli.

Ramos expresses a symmetry not lost on many fans and  but it could also set a chain of conflicting events to occur.

A conflict between fans of O’Brien and Brenton Thwaites who plays the character on HBOMax’s Titans.

They’ve invested three seasons in Thwaites.  The’ve witnessed his evolution from Batman’s sidekick to Detroit police officer Dick Grayson. Grayson’s chance encounter with street teen Rachel Roth leads him to reform the Titans with a mix of new and old members who are pitted against her inter-dimensional demon father Trigon.

Over the course of the show, Grayson shed his identity as Robin to be his own man, separate from Bruce Wayne and Batman. He and the alien princess Koriand’r of Tamaran fell in and out of love, he’s met his hot tempered successor Jason Todd, his soon to be best-friend, and son of Krypton, Conner Kent, and welcomed the return of his closest friend, and member of the Royal House of Themiscyra, Donna Troy. All just in time to face his nemesis Slade Wlison, the assassin Deathstroke, the Terminator.

Grayson evolved into a new hero and a new identity: Nightwing. Determined to forge a new path forward, he demonstrated a different kind of leadership, not a war with soldiers,  but a movement with allies.

As Nightwing, Grayson  set the bar higher. Unlike the Justice League who often didn’t trust one another, these new teen Titans weren’t a team of superheroes but a family.

And for fans of Titans, casting O’Brien in the role will be problematic and they’ll be coming for him since for them Brenton Thwaites IS Nightwing.

Batgirl is currently in production with no release date announced as of yet.
