NEW BOOK Damon Young writes: Some news from Publishers Lunch, and some context)

In 2016, I signed a multi-book deal with @eccobooks. Since that moment, I’ve been nothing but pleased with the care they’ve extended to me and my work. Some of my peers–too many of my peers–have had horror stories about the publishing industry, and I’ve been extremely fortunate not to. WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU BLACKER was a collective, collaborative effort, as all books are, and it doesn’t exist without everything Ecco put into it. That starts with @danielhalpern, and extends to @mulrooca, @meghandrrns, @miriamparker, and so many others.

One of the reasons I chose Ecco was @tanyamckinnon‘s assurance that @combustiblegirl would edit me haaaard as fuck. And she did. Over the past four years, we also developed a trust, an understanding of what I’m attempting to do, an, um, “tolerance” for my various eccentricities, and a lexicon. You know how Drake’s always like “no new friends?” Well, I’m “no new…editors.” (That was much more clever in my head.) So when Denise became the editorial director of @pantheonbooks–where the homie @likaluca is the publisher–I believed it was in my best interests to move there too.

I’m excited to work with Denise and Lisa on my next collection of essays, tentatively titled THE RAGE OF NEW MONEY, and also a yet-to-be titled collection of some of my favorite people writing funny-ass black shit. (Also, I haven’t left Ecco completely. WDKYMYB, and all the podcast/TV stuff happening with it, is still there. Diversify your bonds, nigga!)
