ICYMI Larry Kramer, AIDS Warrior, Takes on Another Plague. The New York Times reports, “Larry Kramer, the AIDS activist who became that epidemic’s wrathful prophet, is now writing a play for the age of Covid-19, perhaps the last work he will ever write. “It’s about gay people having to live through three plagues,” he said Tuesday from his apartment in Greenwich Village, where he is becoming increasingly isolated.

LAUV TO BENEFIT COVID-19 RELIEF EFFORTS Earlier this year, Lauv delivered an anthemic new single for the technology driven generation: “Modern Loneliness.” The power ballad was written as both a statement and a commentary on society and our relationships with social media, where we are increasingly “alone together”—a sentiment that is even more relevant during this time. Last week, he delivered an acoustic version of the track as part of an exclusive merch bundle where all profits were donated to Partners in Health COVID relief efforts. In addition to taking part in livestreams with Global Citizen and Twitch, Lauv also held an at-home livestream concert on his YouTube channel and raised an additional $12k after matching every dollar that was raised. In total between the merch bundle and livestreams, he has raised over $30k so far. Today, Lauv unveils the single on all digital retailers, with all future streams and revenue from the acoustic “Modern Loneliness” going to the relief efforts as well.

TRIAL BY FIRE Mark S. King talks to HIV+ Nurse Brian Thomas who is on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic over at My Fabulous Disease. “After being diagnosed as HIV positive in 2015, I encountered all of the normal feelings that someone usually experiences,” Brian said. “Guilt, shame, and remorse, to name a few.”

Brian eventually worked through those emotions, buoyed by new science proving that those living with HIV who are on successful treatment and achieve an undetectable viral load are incapable of transmitting HIV through sex (known as U=U, or “undetectable equals untransmittable”). “When I realized I am as healthy as any other person in the world,” Brian said, “my perspective about living with HIV began to change.”

“Some people asked me, when I decided I wanted to work in health care as a registered nurse, if I worried about my HIV status keeping me from getting a job or starting my career,” Brian added. “But if my undetectable HIV status is a serious concern to a prospective employer, then that’s not somewhere I want to work anyway.” And then came COVID-19.

DRIVE-INS are  something we can do while social distancing. While traditional movie theaters across the world are tanking because of closures due to the pandemic, some Drive-Ins are doing business. Indie Wire reports, “The EVO Entertainment movie theater in Schertz, Texas, has converted its parking lot into a temporary drive-in theater, reports Forbes. The company painted the exterior wall of the movie theater with high-grain white paint that films can be projected on and they use AM/FM radios to broadcast the sound inside each vehicle. The decision to create a parking lot drive-in has worked like gangbusters. Since opening March 27, every screening has been sold out and all showtimes through April 3 remain booked.

“This is a difficult time for everyone, so we’ve made it our goal to find a way to spread positivity within our community while sharing in the responsibility of social distancing during the crisis,” EVO Entertainment Group CEO Mitchell Roberts said in a statement to Forbes.

MEASURING UP “No homo,”  says Personal Trainer Rick Morrison, “I’ve seen plenty of naked celebs in the locker room before, Shawn Mendes, Adam Levine… but no one was ever that damn blessed”.

FACTS that Tiger King missed about captive tigers. National Geographic reports, “If you’re thinking about visiting a sanctuary or zoo, here are some tips to help you identify ethical and responsible places. Tigers are big, nocturnal, solitary animals, and that means they have some special needs in captivity, according to graduate research by Leigh Pitsko, now at Smithsonian’s National Zoo. They need space to exercise, and they shouldn’t be crowded with other tigers. They need a place to hide if they’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed by human visitors, and they should always have access to shade and water. Toys, activities, and climbing equipment are important for keeping tigers’ brains active, and enclosures with natural flooring substances, not concrete, are important not only for the health of their feet and skin but also for their well-being. The more natural their enclosure, the better.

THE  SEASON FINALE of Star Trek: Picard has left some fans wanting. Space dot com says, “Just as whatever horror was coming reaches the portal, Soji smashes the beacon, which has the effect of closing it. So, in a brilliant move by the writers, the whole ‘what’s coming’ plot is dismissed in very well executed misdirection. Bravo.  You might have thought it was Control. You might have thought it had something to do with the Tkon Empire. You might have thought it had something to do with Lore. You might even have thought Sutra was Lore in a dress and he’d pull a Scooby-Doo ending and peel off a rubber mask and reveal himself as the mischievous son of Soong that he is. Riker says cheerio and then Picard really starts suffering and in all honesty, this just feels like lazy writing. It’s now, in the finale, that his condition starts to show itself. Could the writers not have perhaps introduced this in a more believable manner over a period of time? Take for example Marshall Pentecost (Idris Elba) in Pacific Rim when his nose starts bleeding at inopportune moments. This could’ve been something that Picard had had to try and hide from everyone, perhaps with varying degrees of success. That way it certainly wouldn’t feel like rushed or unimaginative writing, which this does.”
