‘The Batman’ Director Matt Reeves Is Stoked About Robert Pattinson’s Casting

After months of rumors, Warner Bros. finally cast Robert Pattinson for director Matt Reeves’ reboot of the Dark Knight franchise, beginning with The Batman.

Reeves was radio silent during the casting process, only quoted as saying that he was looking for a younger actor then Ben Affleck. Affleck’s older, wizened Bats was conceived by Zach Snyder for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Suicide Squad, and Justice League.

Affleck made numerous attempts to get his own Bat film off the ground, but told Jimmy Kimmell that he couldn’t “cut it” as Batman in the DCU films according to Entertainment Weekly.

Affleck said, “I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn’t come up with a version — I couldn’t crack it and so I thought it’s time for someone else to take a shot at it. They got some really good people so I’m excited.”

Reeves has maintained that The Batman would be a detective story from early in the caped crusader’s career.

Casting was rumored to be a close decision with Nicholas Hoult and Armie Hammer also seriously considered.

Based on his Tweet, Reeves seems like he’s quite happy with Pattinson in the role.

The news comes in the midst of DC Comics’ celebration of the Dark Knight’s 80th Anniversary this year.

Batman first debuted in Detective Comics #27, cover dated May 1939.

The Batman first appeared in the six-page story, “The Case of the Criminal Syndicate!” This issue also features the first appearances of Commissioner Gordon and the revelation of Bat-Man’s secret identity as Bruce Wayne.

This hilarious photo of Pattinson and his Twilight co-star Tayler Lautner as Batman and Robin has been circulating social media.

No word yet regarding rumors that Pattinson’s Twilight co-star Tayler Lautner will be playing Robin.
