‘Statistically It’s Almost Certain There’s Been a Gay U.S. President,’ Pete Buttigieg: WATCH

Appearing in an interview on HBO’s Axios news show last night, Mayor Pete Buttigieg told host Mike Allen about the prospect of being the first gay U.S. president: “I would imagine we’ve probably had excellent presidents who are gay, we just didn’t know which ones.”

Buttigieg also told Allen that he experienced depression (not PTSD) after being deployed to Afghanistan. “Anytime, in anyway, you were even remotely involved in killing, it takes something out of you,” Buttigieg said of his military experience.

Buttigieg also said that he “wouldn’t put it past” Trump to let the border situation with Mexico get worse “in order for it to be a more divisive issue, so that he could benefit politically.”

Said Buttigieg: “The president needs this crisis to get worse, even though it makes a liar out of him. I don’t think he’s worried about that. … I don’t think he cares if it gets better. But he certainly doesn’t benefit from comprehensively fixing the problem.”
