CLIMATE CHANGE is radicalizing young people — here’s what that means and how to combat despair. CNBC: Young people are not coping well with climate anxiety. Sarah Ray, a professor of environmental studies at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, has had a front row seat to the way climate change has landed on young people and most notably, how the weight of that anxiety has changed over the decade-plus years she’s been a professor.

Ray wrote a book on what she’s learned: A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet, which came out in 2020.

BEACH BUM Rufus Wainwright: Happy #NationalBeachDay everyone! These photos are from 2009, the year we bought our house in Montauk, but I hope you’ve all been able to safely make it into your favorite bodies of water this summer! The beach is one of our favorite places to be. Back at the beginning of the pandemic I found myself listening to a lot of Hawaiian music – it brought me to the beach at least in my mind while we were all in lockdown at home. What are your fondest beach memories? ⛱

ICON Saturday August 28 would have been Jack “The King” Kirby’s 104th birthday, fans of his work are gathering to pay tribute to the legendary comic creator some 26 years after his death.

Born in 1917, Kirby landed his first comics work at just 19 years of age, working on comic strips for newspapers. It wasn’t too long after that he switched roles and started working at Timely Comics, where he’d quickly create Captain America (1940) alongside frequent collaborator Joe Simon. Timely — the predecessor to Marvel — is where Kirby then spent most of his time.

After creating virtually everything for Stan Lee and Marvel in the 1960s, Kirby left for DC where he created the New Gods and introduced Darkseid, who quickly became the greatest villain in the DCU.

HE’S GOT A POINT Reboot redux. “Regular people don’t know where to start with comics” they’ve rebooted the Halloween franchise like four times with zero explanation, sometimes people just want to see Wolverine or Jamie Lee Curtis stab somebody.
