Ricky Gervais Hilariously Rips into Leonardo DiCaprio in Golden Globes Open: WATCH

Share

Ricky Gervais delivered his darkest, funniest material at tonight’s 77th annual Golden Globes Awards.

Speaking about Best Picture nominee, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which starred Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt, Gervais questioned the necessity of both Hollywood’s and The Irishman’s three hour run times and DiCaprio’s predilection for younger women in one pithy joke.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood–nearly three hours long,” Gervais said, “Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end his date was too old for him. So… Even Prince Andrew’s [a friend of Jeffrey Epstein–also the subject of a dark joke] like ‘C’mon Leo-mate, you’re nearly 50 [years-old].”

Both Gervais and Di Caprio were openly drinking, what appeared to be beer for Gervais and Di Caprio gulped a Martini right before Gervais’ joke and took it in stride, laughing at himself.

He started by chastising the people for even trying to use their time onstage to express their political stances.  “If you win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech you’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”

His previously referenced Jeffrey Epstein joke came in a plug of Gervais’ own Netflix show After Life, in which he plays a man who wants to kill himself. “OK, spoiler alert, season two is on the way, so in the end obviously he didn’t kill himself,” he said. “Just like Jeffrey Epstein.”

But then like hearing FINISH HIM in a Mortal Kombat game, Gervais mic dropped, “…You say you’re woke but the companies you work for…Apple, Amazon, Disney…if ISIS started a streaming service you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you. If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech.”
