Pro Black Conservative Journalist Olivia Rondeau Says Her Father Greeted Her with ‘Straight Up Bigotry’ After Coming Out

Pro Black conservative journalist Olivia Rondeau says her father greeted her with straight up bigotry after she came out as a bisexual on the first episode of HBO’s Pause with Sam Jay.

Rondeau wrote on Twitter: “When I came out I knew I would face backlash from more unaccepting family members. I knew my dad would not approve. But I could never imagine the amount of straight-up bigotry I would get from the man who was supposed to raise and love me. Shouldn’t have expected differently.”

She continued, “This is the same man who walked out of a restaurant when I was a young child because an older gay couple came and sat down. Same man who wants to cancel every TV show when there’s one gay character  I was really stupid to think this would be any other way. This is just to vent. I don’t have a relationship with him and haven’t for some time. We both cut each other off because it was just a mess of toxicity and he was just very emotionally abusive. Anyone saying I can just forgive and forget, while I appreciate the advice, is wrong.”

Rondeau is a political science major at the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, where she’s also a member of the wrestling team. In addition, she is an independent political commentator and social media influencer. Her work has appeared in various libertarian and conservative publications, including FEE, the Daily Caller, and the Lone Conservative. In addition to freelance writing, Olivia also works in video production and political grassroots movements.

Sam Jay thoughtfully questioned Rondeau on Pause, and asked what it’s like to align with a party historically steeped in racism, and allows them space to explain what conservatism means to them. It’s a premise that some will dismiss on its face. But by having a conversation without condescending, Jay thinks she can be more effective.  “They were kids. They’re idealistic, and they have big ideas about the world and what it can be. I’m an adult, I’m not gonna step on that. I can maybe guide it, like water. But to just be like, ‘Oh, you don’t know the fuck you’re talking about,’ is not me.”
