From our story on Jimenez in March: “Historia was announced nearly two years ago but Jimenez says that the project’s genesis began even earlier and was originally conceived as a graphic novel. The writer, Kelly Sue DeConnick, is the brilliant scribe behind such titles as Bitch Planet, Pretty Deadly, and most notably, Captain Marvel. Her run on that character, Carol Danvers, is the blueprint that the Marvel Studio film was based on. “She’s just a really incredible writer.”
Smart thread about value and genre in monthly comics vs manga
Hits some of the intelligent points that @kellysue highlighted on the @talkingcomics podcast, which also covers a lot of other hot topics including @DCWonderWoman HISTORIA: THE AMAZONShttps://t.co/egOqXAHPmO https://t.co/yfwSWzQv80 pic.twitter.com/w2s5Wi4fn6

Jimenez followed, “Wonder Woman’s own history, and that of Diana’s childhood has been reinterpreted multiple times over the years in comics by many creators including women. But the actual history of her people, the history of the Amazons has not. That entire backstory has never been written by a woman. And so, that’s one of the reasons I was so excited about it. So, it’s a total reinterpretation of the Wonder Woman myth. What I really appreciate about it, to get jargon-y for a moment is it’s a super feminist take on this which Kelly Sue and I had some really interesting discussions about because the original version, I think, is the super queer take on it. And so, when I got involved with this, I did a lot of research, of course, and I’ve been doing all these academic papers on Wonder Woman anyway, but about the weird intersection of sort of queer politics and feminist politics and where they intersect and where they divide. And I feel like this book is sort of in that interesting space which is not just it’s not also a giant comic book full of superheroes and gods and things like that, but it’s just really interesting to tone.”
From Jimenez’s Wednesday post on Instagram: Just going over color on #WWHistoria #Vol1… The colorists on this book as @evergreenfajardo, @arifprianto.arf, and #HiFi — worked their asses off on some of the most complex art I’ve ever created, and I will never be able to repay them for the blood, sweat, and many tears that have ended up on these pages. Colorists are unsung heroes in our business and deserve way more credit — and $$ — than they are given for the work they do.
Slept until 10:30, read birthday wishes over coffee and chocolate chip banana bread. AND OH YEAH, #WWHistoria GOT ANNOUNCED!! **64 pg issue 1 on shelves October 19.**
Literally years in the making, and I promise you, worth every hour. Look at this: pic.twitter.com/0ptyujz0eb

The synopsis for Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons reads: Best-selling DC talent Kelly Sue DeConnick (Aquaman) and Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman By Phil Jimenez Omnibus) launches one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year. Millennia ago, Queen Hera and the goddesses of the Olympian pantheon grew greatly dissatisfied with their male counterparts… and far from their sight, they put a plan into action. A new society was born, one never before seen on Earth, capable of wondrous and terrible things, but their existence could not stay secret for long. When a despairing woman named Hippolyta crossed the Amazons’ path, a series of events was set in motion that would lead to an outright war in heaven—and the creation of the Earth’s greatest guardian!
