Olly Alexander’s Acoustic Cover Of ‘It’s A Sin’ Will Blow You Away: WATCH

The single of Years and Years’ Olly Alexander’s cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s a Sin” was released Friday.
Timed to coincide with the premiere of the eponymous TV series on Channel 4 in the U.K., the song is such a classic that it was difficult to imagine anything that would be above o imagine how a cover could improve on the originals. But n the hands of Alexander, the acoustic cover “Sin,” for the eponymous British show about the Plague Years of the AIDS epidemic in 1980s London simultaneously strikes melodically nostalgic, yet lyrically, hauntingly relevant while Alexander’s vocals raise it to operatic in scope.
Years and Years frontman Olly Alexander’s cover of the Pet Shop Boys “It’s a Sin” the title track of the epynonmous It’s a Sin, the new gay-themed drama from Queer As Folk creator Russell T. Davies about Britain’s AIDS crisis in the 1980s was released Friday.
Alexander plays Ritchie Tozer in the series who is one of the three main characters.

Channel 4 says of the show: “Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin are young lads, strangers at first, leaving home at 18 and heading off to London in 1981 with hope and ambition and joy… and walking straight into a plague that most of the world ignores. Year by year, episode by episode, their lives change, as the mystery of a new virus starts as a rumour, then a threat, then a terror, and then something that binds them together in the fight. It’s the story of their friends, lovers and families too, especially Jill, the girl who loves them and helps them, and galvanises them in the battles to come. Together they will endure the horror of the epidemic, the pain of rejection and the prejudices that gay men faced throughout the decade.”
