Share

Lil Nas X came out as gay in a tweet on World Pride Day and fans did not see it coming. Nelly tells People magazine he admires his courage and willingness to speak his truth.

NBC News reported:

Celebrities including Dwyane Wade, Diplo and Tamar Braxton are showing support for Lil Nas X after the rapper said he’s been receiving homophobic comments after coming out as gay.

Lil Nas X became a superstar almost overnight when his hit single “Old Town Road” won – and then lost – a spot on the Billboard country chart. The song has remained No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive 12 weeks in a row. But despite his fame, many people didn’t know much about the man behind the song.

On Tuesday, the “Old Town Road” rapper took to Instagram to post a sad face emoji wearing a cowboy hat and holding a gun, writing: “say one more home of phobic thing to me.”

The post quickly garnered an outpouring of love and support for Lil Nas X. As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 754,000 people had “liked” it.

“Super proud of you,” singer Tamar Braxton wrote in the comments section of the Instagram post.

“We love you tho,” DJ and producer Diplo wrote.

Late on Sunday night, the last day of Pride Month, Lil Nas X tweeted about “c7osure” – a song from his new album, “7” — and seemed to reveal something about himself that many people didn’t know.

“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure,” he tweeted, sharing a short animated clip featuring “c7osure.”

Nelly also recognized the challenges that the hip-hop fandom stills has to overcome. Or as X said on Twitter:

Lil Nas X joins Frank Ocean as the only other out major hip-hop artists. Ocean came out in a letter posted on his blog in 2012.
