MUST SEE TV Pause with Sam Jay on HBO Max. We love Sam Jay and if you haven’t already, stop what you’re doing and catch her first stand-up show: Sam Jay: 3 In the Morning on Netflix stat, but Pause is a revelation.
Pause was co-created by Sam Jay, stand-up comedian and Saturday Night Live writer, and Prentice Penny, showrunner and executive producer of Insecure. It feels fresh for some obvious reasons. Jay is a Black queer woman in a field filled with straight white men. But aside from the host, the format also feels unique. Where late night is dominated by monologues, desks, interviews, and panels, Pause is quite literally a party. Jay invites over her real-life friends and fellow comedians, and they shoot the shit, filmed by two camera operators, while Jay guides the conversation toward the episode’s topic.
Black conservative Olivia Rondeau comes out to Jay in a moving and genuinely sincere moment, the likes rarely seen in the age of reality TV.

UFOS SWARM NAVY SHIP ???? Filmmaker Jeremy Corbell released video on Thursday that shows the USS Omaha being swarmed by unidentified aerial phenomena. The New York Post: The new unclassified clip shows sailors aboard the Omaha observing as many as nine UFOs swarming the ship at speeds approaching 160 mph. “Holy s–t they’re going fast,” a sailor is heard saying, before adding, “Oh, it’s turning around.”

The Pentagon had previously confirmed that an 18-second video Corbell leaked of three UFOs hovering over the USS Russell in July 2019 is authentic.
The filmmaker said that at one point, 14 UFOs could be seen on the Navy radar, but that footage was not provided. “It supports the hypothesis that these are not just a balloon that is dropping into the water, it’s not something that is easily explained, these are true unidentifieds in mass number.”

TRAILER OF THE WEEK Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural thriller Old, which is set to hit theaters on July 23.
After a group of travelers finds the body of a dead woman on a beach that swiftly decomposes, they begin to realize that there is something mysterious about this seemingly idyllic vacation destination. Hence the film’s title, the chilling trailer shows all of the characters on the beach aging rapidly as they try to find a way to escape the island’s treacherous curse. The film is an adaptation of Sandcastle, a 2010 graphic novel written by Pierre Oscar Lévy and illustrated by Frederik Peeters.

FRENCH NOT SO OPEN Why Naomi Osaka won’t do press. The New York Post: Osaka, who Forbes named the highest paid female athlete of all time in 2020, has said that she will not be participating in any news conferences during the French Open in order to protect her mental health.
The tennis star posted the news on social media saying, “I’ve often felt that people have no regard for athletes mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one.”

Osaka explained that she has been threatened with fines for refusing press and is willing to accept them in order to maintain her mental health but has “hope the considerable amount that I get fined for this will go toward a mental health charity.”
According to ESPN, pro tennis players can be fined up to $20,000 for skipping a news conference at a major tournament, and the official Grand Slam rulebook states that players are mandated to attend post-match media conferences unless they are injured or physically unable to appear.
A study published by the Sport Journal supports that media does impact athletes’ performance. “That athletic performance efficiency is reduced by distraction,” the study claimed. “It is believed that distractions interfere with an athlete’s ability to focus.”

Later, when ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ made her a star, O’Connor said the song’s writer, Prince, terrorized her. She had pledged to reveal the details ‘when I’m an old lady and I write my book,’ and now she has: She writes that Prince summoned her to his macabre Hollywood mansion, chastised her for swearing in interviews, harangued his butler to serve her soup though she repeatedly refused it, and sweetly suggested a pillow fight, only to thump her with something hard he’d slipped into his pillowcase. When she escaped on foot in the middle of the night, she writes, he stalked her with his car, leapt out and chased her around the highway.
Prince is the type of artist who is hailed as crazy-in-a-good-way, as in, ‘You’ve got to be crazy to be a musician,’ O’Connor said, ‘but there’s a difference between being crazy and being a violent abuser of women.’ Still, the fact that her best-known song was written by this person does not faze her at all. ‘As far as I’m concerned,’ she said, ‘it’s my song.'”

NEW TEEN TITANS CREATORS Marv Wolfman and George Pérez will be making a guest appearance on the Cartoon Network show Teen Titans Go!
Wolfman (pictured above) wrote on Facebook: “A number of months ago, in the early days of the Pandemic, George Pérez and I got calls from the Cartoon Network. They said they wanted to do an episode of Teen Titans Go! that actually featured George and me in it. Playing ourselves. And, if we agreed, could we do our own voice acting.”
Wolfman then describes how the whole thing nearly fell apart because the voice recording was scheduled at the height of the Pandemic and he wasn’t going risk breaking quarantine to drive the 70 miles to Warner Bro. studio in Burbank.
But he says, “I didn’t have to go to Burbank because Burbank, in a way, would come to me.”
Sound equipment was shipped to his house and left at the front door. Wolfman was provided a script — meanwhile George did his voice recordings in Florida.
The name of the episode is “Marv Wolfman and George Pérez” No joke. Wolfman added, “George and I will also be on a second episode sometime in the next few weeks. That one is called ‘Creative Genuises.’ Seriously. I’ll let you know the date as soon as I do. Hope you love it as much as we do.”
Wolfman and Pérez created The New Teen Titans at DC Comics in 1980. That series introduced their original creations like Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, Terra, Jericho, and Slade Wilson alongside the founding members Robin (later Nightwing), Wonder Girl, Kid-Flash, and occasionally Speedy aka Roy Harper. They also added an ex-member of the Doom Patrol Changeling aka Garfield Logan aka Beast Boy. The series was hit bestseller for nearly 20 years and all modern iterations of the heroes in other media: Cyborg in Justice League (especially Zack Snyder’s), DC’s Titans on HBO Max, the original Teen Titans on Cartoon Network, and all DC Universe Animated Original Movies stem from their creations. “Marv Wolfman and George Pérez” airs Saturday May 29 on Cartoon Network at 12PM EST and 9AM PSD.

DEATH AND CASTING Neil Gaiman confirmed his upcoming Sandman series at Netflix had begun shooting 8 days ago on Thursday.
He also announced that actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste was cast as Death. Upon the announcement that the actress, who is Black, would portray Morpheus’ sister and another member of The Endless, the usual gang of Twitter idiots were unsurprisingly outraged.

Entertainment Weekly: Howell-Baptiste (Cruella, The Good Place) will play Death, one of the most iconic Sandman personages and a nerd-crush character for the ages. Even if you haven’t read The Sandman, you may still recognize Death’s classic outfit of black tank top, Egyptian eye tattoo, and ankh necklace; it heavily influenced Goth fashion as the ’90s became the 2000s, and remains a popular cosplay to this day. Death first appeared in issue #8 of The Sandman (titled “The Sound of Her Wings”), where she cheers up a morose Dream by taking him with her on her daily tour of the dying; it’s often credited as an early turning point for the series that helped elevate it from dark fantasy to genre-breaking, zeitgeist-shaping work. Any adaptation of The Sandman is going to have a lot riding on its depiction of Death (Kat Dennings recently played her in the Audible adaptation).
“Hundreds of talented women from all around the planet auditioned, and they were brilliant, and none of them were right,” Gaiman said in a statement. “Someone who could speak the truth to Dream, on the one hand, but also be the person you’d want to meet when your life was done on the other. And then we saw Kirby Howell-Baptiste’s audition and we knew we had our Death.”

BAREASS Troye Sivan may have adopted a play form Lil Nas X’s playbook and even showed his ass to promote his latest track, a collaboration with the DJ Regard and Canadian singer Tate McRae entitled ‘You’.
The track dropped early Friday AM after which he posted the behind-the-scenes image clearly showing his butt cheeks – albeit he’s wearing a thong and some see-through lace/mesh type outfit. “Fine I’ll get cheeks out on main.”

In the video, a die-hard fan attempts to hack into the online accounts of Sivan and McRae, even using deepfake technology to splice herself into their video. Sivan told i-D magazine on Thursday about the dangers of deepfake AI and why he always thinks carefully about what he puts on the internet. “I’ve been cautious of what I put on social media for a long time. I grew up online and have had socials since I was probably 12. I feel like there’s this innate feeling within me that knew whatever I put on the internet lasts forever. I’m really grateful that I did because I worry a lot for young people online. The iPad kids. I don’t know if it’ll be innate to them, that they’ll understand [the risks], or if they’ll put everything online and pay for it later. That’s really scary to me.”

ART Damian Wayne & Flatline by Gleb Melnikov. In Robin #2 CBR says: As the best fighters in the DC Universe face off in the Mortal Kombat-esque Lazarus Tournament, Damian Wayne and Flatline are circling each other as competitors. However, there are some hints in Robin #2 that the young woman might end up meaning a lot more to Robin, even potentially becoming a love interest for him.
Withe the advent of the Lazarus Tournament each champion of their fight will be imbued with immortality. The rules of the tournament allow for multiple fatalities, as the mystical properties of Lazarus Island allow any fallen fighter to be restored to life twice without any fallout — although a third death will result in the loss of the competitor’s soul. Damian ended up being an unwitting showcase for this: while attempting to make his presence known, Robin ended up in a quick duel with Flatline, the newly introduced sidekick of Lord-Death Man.
