Maxi Galmour’s ‘Don’t Worry’ Is the Anti-Capitalist Psychedelic Adventure Anthem We Need Now: WATCH

Trans performer Maxi Glamour (formerly featured on Dragula) just released their new video/single “Don’t Worry” that’s a  visual anti-capitalist psychedelic audio adventure/anthem that  evokes the sort of panacea the world could use right now.

The Marxist milieu is evoked immediately by Glamour’s Naʼvi-esque appearance. Like the indigenous alien species featured in director James Cameron’s Avatar, Glamour’s identity emerges from the dialectic of interacting with ordinary humans.

Like Avatar‘s fictional world of Pandora, Glamour’s single/video is one part of the mise-en-scène of the universe they are creating with the album Modernadada which drops July 4th, 2021.

Glamour, who is a part of the Trans Trenderz  music collective, says Modernadada has two meanings: the  fantasy realm they craft and explore in their music, and the name they have coined for their own unique art genre — a modern take on the radical disruption of Dadaism. Modernadada takes the listener on a journey through a “delirium of transcendental thought and expression,” guided by Glamour’s own mission to challenge every societal norm.

Kicked out as a teen and homeless for much of their early twenties, they have some ideas about how the whole system should be torn down. This album is a first battle-cry in this Black, trans artist’s crusade to dismantle the society that marginalizes them.

Modernadada on its surface is an allegory for self-actualization. Maxi’s journey into the land of Modernadada reflects a journey to discover personal purpose, a theme that they have contemplated for much of the quarantine and self-isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The album is shot through with tension and struggle from their life experiences — evoking their journey from homelessness to security, their run on reality TV, recent social political events in the United States, and the stochastic terror the Trump administration targeted at the trans community.

“Don’t Worry” is the first track from the album. It seeks to impart the courage the listener will need to weather the mania inducing psychic and aural attack of the sounds employed throughout the song meant to disturb and shove the listener off the metaphorical cliff’s edge into the unknown.

Trans Trenderz was launched in 2016 when Cxsper curated and produced the eponymous mixtape featuring 14 Trans artists. The feeling at the release party was unlike anything they had experienced before. “You could feel how excited people were to finally see Trans folks on stage. It didn’t feel like a show, more like a family reunion,” they explain. “There was no hierarchy between the artist and the audience, everybody was contributing to the love in that room in their own way.” Wanting to continue to provide that space for themselves and other like-minded artists, Trans Trenderz officially evolved into a record label, signing Transgender and gender non-conforming acts.
