James Tynion IV’s and Tony Daniels Batman Run Is Going to Blow You Away

Share

It would be a tough job for anyone. Writer Tom King set the pace and raised the bar of what a Batman story could be for over 85 issues and seven years. Hard shoes to fill. But  if anyone can it might be James Tynion IV, a genuine protege of the legendary Scott Snyder, and and someone who has had his hand  in many of the best Batman stories of the last ten years.

Yesterday Tynion began dropping major teasers on Twitter  about his run ,which begins Wednesday January 8th with Batman #86.

Among them, “This run sets up things that play out in Nightwing and other Gotham Books, and vice versa! Team Gotham has been working together to bring you a cohesive line leading into a big story this summer.”

Replying to why he cast Deathstroke to be the main antagonist on this run, he wrote : “I needed Assassins, I have always loved Tony Daniels drawing Slade, and I knew his solo series was ending. It was honestly one of my first thoughts for how I wanted to open the book!”

“I think if everyone buys 5 copies of each cover, that would be plenty,” Tynion says.

Previews’ written solicitation for the book says, “It’s a new day in Gotham City, but not the same old Batman. With Bane vanquished and one of his longtime allies gone, Batman has to start picking up the pieces and stepping up his game. Batman has a new plan for Gotham City, but he’s not the only one. Deathstroke has returned as well, under a mysterious new contract that could change everything.  Beginning a whole new chapter in the life of the Dark Knight, the epic art team of Tony S. Daniel and Danny Miki are joined by new series writer James Tynion IV!”

Batman #86 is out this Wednesday at comic shops everywhere and Comixology.
