Jake Dylan Grazer—Star of ‘Luca’ and ‘Shazam!’—Comes Out as Bi

Jack Dylan Grazer, who plays Alberto in Pixar’s summer hit Luca, and Captain Marvel Junior in Shazam! and its upcoming sequel, Shazam! War of the Gods, came out as bisexual.
During a recent Instagram Live (which was screen-recorded and shared to Twitter), the 17-year-old American actor, who has made a name for himself in recent, big-budget titles like Shazam, It, and the totally-gay-but-not-gay animated film Luca, was asked, point-blank, “are you gay?” by a viewer.
“I’m bi,” Grazer replied instantly, smiling, before breaking out a famous quote from his Luca character: “Silenzio Bruno!”

Many of Grazer’s over 4.6 million followers on Instagram were also quick to point out that he updated his pronouns on his bio, listing he/they as his pronouns.

Affectionately dubbed Calamari by Your Name by the New York Times, Grazer recently voiced the character of Alberto in Disney and Pixar’s Luca, and upon watching the film, it’s not hard to see why queer audiences are so enamored with it. With themes that include keeping secrets from the ones you love, running away from home to explore and be yourself, and hiding a huge part of your identity from society (just to name a few), there’s a lot in Luca that LGBTQ+ people can relate to, but the thing that REALLY has fans all over the world fawning over the animated flick is the definitely the dynamic between the two main characters Luca and Alberto.
Unfortunately, no matter how queer audiences think Luca is, the film’s director says that isn’t necessarily the intention.
“In my first picture I realized we hadn’t done kids being kids,” Luca director Enrico Casarosa told Out last month about crafting Luca and Alberto’s close, loving on-screen dynamic. “So that was kind of part of me thinking about that. It’s also specifically a little bit pre-romance. That was something that I was interested in as well because there’s just that moment that maybe we’re not thinking about boyfriends and girlfriends yet, which is really more about friendships.”
