J.B. Smoove hit the Breakfast Club Friday morning to promote the next season of Curb Your Enthusiasm and raised some interesting perspectives on being a comedian today.
He said: “You need that medicine. It’s rough for comedians right now. We gotta be very careful in this climate in this world. Here’s the hard part. You’re watching the comedian on stage. You’re laughing and loving it. Then the comedian gets backlash. Here’s the thing that’s tricky. What happens when the camera spins around on the audience and you’re crying. You and your girl are stomping your feet. Your girl is hugging you. Do you get fired? Because your boss saw you laughing at something that offends him? We gotta pull back and figure out how to move forward in society and understand the purpose of humor. The purpose of satire. The purpose of comedy. Even poets. Poets go hard. But you gotta live.”
