How Marvel Studios Is Not So Secretly Assembling ‘The Young Avengers’— WATCH

Share

IGN just released a video titled: ‘How the MCU is Secretly Assembling The Young Avengers’ — but ever since we saw Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and definitely by the time Billy and Tommy were born in WandaVision, I’d argue it’s the worst kept secret in the Marvel U after whether or not Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire will be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home or as The Mary Sue said: “all the ‘surprise’ cameos of this movie are truly just floating around online, and no one is really good about shutting them down.”

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes might be taking a bit of a break in the MCU as the remaining Avengers are all of figuring things out, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe might secretly be assembling a new team of Avengers with young heroes they’ve already started sprinkling throughout the MCU. So far the MCU Young Avengers include Kate Bishop, Wiccan, Speed and Patriot, but will soon include heroes like Ms. Marvel (a.k.a. Kamala Kahn) and Miss America (a.k.a. America Chavez). Will Hulking or Iron Lad make an appearance? And will there eventually be a Young Avengers movie? Or another Disney + (Disney Plus) series?

Most likely yes to all those questions. In fact so many of the characters have been popping up in the current Phase 4 of the Marvel Universe, that anticipatory excitement for Phase 5 has reached a fever pitch with fandom, much of it surrounding the development of the Young Avengers.

So much so that Entertainment Weekly asked Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige about the team recently to which he responded:

As a comic fan, anything in the comics is always our inspiration and our guide point. How those things come together and in what shape, it’s always subverting expectations, it’s always half the fun as meeting them. But, yes, you can certainly see that Phase 4 is introducing all sorts of new types of characters with the potential being endless. Now, all of us at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man 1, as new actors and new performers come in and we tell them they’re part of a bigger universe. They just now have to do the work required to build their audience. I’m happy to say everybody that’s here, certainly where I’m sitting now, is doing amazing work and [I] can’t wait to show them the world.

The Young Avengers were originally introduced as part of a twelve-issue comic book series that dropped back in 2005. The team features young characters with connections to established Marvel heroes like Captain America and Hawkeye. In time, the group became a hit with fans and has seen different iterations over the years.

Feige certainly didn’t spill any beans while chatting with EW, but he did acknowledge the potential for new kinds of characters. Crucial members of the Young Avengers team are being introduced over the course of Phase 4. Two of them: Tommy and Billy Maximoff were key players in WandaVision.

Disney+’s Hawkeye will introduce Clint Barton’s protege, Kate Bishop, an aspiring archer.

Meanwhile, Disney+’s Ironheart will mark the debut of prodigy Riri Williams, who builds her own version of the Iron Man armor. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also include teen hero America Chavez. And  Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will give us more of Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie, who (in the comics) takes on the mantle of Stature.

And CG Magazine claimed a source revealed that Marvel’s Young Avengers has begun its casting process, giving fans faces to put to the already popular comic book characters. Among the list of characters are Nathaniel Richards (Iron Lad), Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Cassie Lang (Stature), Kamala Khan (Ms Marvel) and Eli Bradley (Patriot).

And fans have noticed (see below).

Hailee Steinfeld has already been cast as Kate Bishop aka Hawkeye.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Eli Bradley — Patriot. Bradley is the grandson of Isaiah Bradley, who was the first super sodier.

Word is that Kathryn Newton (Pokémon Detective Pikachu 2019) will portray Cassie Lang aka Stature, and Iman Vellani aka Ms. Marvel, who’s title film Marvel has already announced is in production.
