Writer and activist,  Mark S. King, founder of My Fabulous Disease, raised over $20,000 for The Reunion Project that benefits Long Term Survivors living with HIV with his star studded birthday bash Wednesday.

The event boasted appearances by Broadway star Javier Muñoz , Olympian Greg Louganis, Broadway Cares’ Tom Viola, and Sir Elton John and David Furnish. Attendees watching on social media posted comments throughout, sharing laughter and tears in nearly equal measure for the unbridled joy the event produced.

King wrote on MFB, “The one-hour event was stuffed with pure joy, some comedy and silliness from host Charles Sanchez, and surprisingly emotional moments (like when Muñoz belted tunes from Hamilton!, Sherri’s rendition of “Being Alive!”, and Elton and David singing Happy Birthday! Plus dozens of people discussing their legacy as long-term survivors!)”
“Even the sight of my husband Michael appearing with a cake on fire and singing Happy Birthday melted the crowd,” King said. “There were thousands of views and more than 700 comments on the Facebook stream. We brought some community spirit to the forefront and that, above all, was our biggest wish.”

King added, “If you are living with HIV, please consider seeking the support and sense of community a network of other people living with HIV can provide. The Reunion Project is the latest example of these networks, which include groups like The Sero Project, The Positive Women’s Network, Positively Trans, Let’s Kick ASS, Thrive SS, and so many others. Support, inspiration, and friendship are waiting for you.”
