#GAYNRD DAILY  the news and art round-up for Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

“One of the reasons people our age came to New York, if you were gay, was because you were gay… That created a kind of density of angry homosexuals, which is always good for a city. There’s nothing better for a city than a dense population of angry homosexuals.” Fran Lebowitz

GRANT MORRISON says he’s taking a break from DC Comics after the upcoming Superman and The Authority miniseries. Games Radar: DC fans, prepare to say goodbye to Grant Morrison – as the upcoming Superman and the Authority limited series will be the writer’s last work for the publisher for “quite a while,” they tell Newsarama. But if you’re a fan of their work, you’ve already read Morrison’s goodbye to DC – their title The Green Lantern with artist Liam Sharp.

“….Green Lantern is kind of me saying goodbye and that I’m sorry I’ve hung around for so long,” Morrison tells Newsarama with a laugh. “Both [The Green Lantern and Wonder Woman: Earth One Volume Three] mark a milestone for me, because after this I’ll be taking some time off for quite a while.”

This will be the end of a 17-year stretch with Morrison at DC – 29 years if you add in their ’80s and ’90s work before they took a hiatus from DC for a few years at Marvel. But for those of you speculating the end of Morrison’s DC time to mean they’re returning to Marvel, don’t think in such binary terms. “I’ve been doing a lot of work in television, so one of the things that I’m looking at now are novels to adapt or stuff like that,” Morrison says. “That’s kind of like doing a comic, because you’re trying to understand why someone initially came up with the idea. You know, ‘What was their motivation? What was their way of thinking? And how do you bring that into the future?’ And that’s what we do in comics.”

Most of all Morrison’s DC and Marvel work is available in print and digitally. For the best digital comics experience, here are our recommended best digital comics readers for Android and iOS devices.

THE GENERATIONAL CLASH around Pride is a sign of progress says The AtlanticThis month, the memes related to LGBTQ Pride celebrations have had a striking theme: disgust. Some people have been sharing images of queer icons and homophobes alike wearing expressions of disapproval—RuPaul frowning on the phone, Little Edie ranting in Grey Gardens, Aunt Lydia scowling in The Handmaid’s Tale. The captions say something along the lines of “Gen Z calling the cops after seeing a jockstrap at Pride.”

Supposedly, there is a yet another generational war going on—among queer people, and about sex.But the kink-at-Pride debate shows that the queer movement has grown in exactly the way it should.

NEW SPECIES OF HUMAN discovered. The New York Times: Scientists on Friday announced that a massive fossilized skull that is at least 140,000 years old is a new species of ancient human, a finding that could potentially change prevailing views of how — and even where — our species, Homo sapiens, evolved.

The researchers named the new species Homo longi and gave it the nickname “Dragon Man,” for the Dragon River region of northeast China where the skull was discovered.

The team said that Homo longi, and not the Neanderthals, was the extinct human species mostly closely related to our own. If confirmed, that would change how scientists envision the origin of Homo sapiens, which has been built up over the years from fossil discoveries and the analysis of ancient DNA.
