DANK NY New York’s summer of hedonism gets an early start as recreational weed becomes immediately legal. Grub Street: Recreational marijuana is now legal in New York State, with some parts of the new law going into effect immediately. As in, right now. The New York Times explains the details: While public consumption is legal as of this very moment (“3/31 is the new 4/20 in New York,” quipped the NYC Hospitality Alliance’s Andrew Rigie), other pieces of the legislation will take some time to go into effect. Eventually, though, New Yorkers will legally be able to get cannabis delivered to their homes, cultivate “up to six plants” for personal use, and buy recreational weed products at dispensaries and Amsterdam-style “consumption sites” — though, as the Times notes, some of that is more than a year off.

YASUKE is played by  LaKeith Stanfield in the upcoming Netflix series. Entertainment Weekly reports: Yasuke, the world’s first African samurai, had to fight for his place in history. The records of his time traversing 16th century Japan and serving under daimyō Nobunaga Oda are still sparse and filled with gaps. And yet, given the figure’s significance, anime creator LeSean Thomas is surprised there hasn’t been any “full-fledged mainstream media storytelling” of the warrior. He’s about to change that now, albeit with a supernatural twist.

“The stuff that I tend to make I consider gateway anime,” Thomas tells EW over the phone from Tokyo, where he’s been working in the Japanese anime scene for the past few years. “These are projects that have a combination of ingredients that you wouldn’t normally get from the Japanese industry because of the history, the regional differences, and our cultural approaches. There are people who I’m pretty sure will say something like, ‘Well, I’m not really into anime but, man, it has LaKeith,’ or, ‘Wow! Flying Lotus. I want to check that out.'”

SARAH PAULSON was trending onTwitter Thursday in another faux outrage story all too common these days. Gay Times: Gay Twitter has been left divided after an online user tweeted the star “Put [your] pronouns in your bio, it’s not that hard.” Paulson quickly replied to the tweet saying it wasn’t anyone’s job to tell her what to do. The star tweeted back: “It’s also not that hard for you to not tell what to do.”

A few minutes after the post was fired off, online users began rapidly calling for the cancelling of the American Horror Story actress. She was called everything from transphobic to a terf (trans-exclusionary radical feminist). #GayNrd gives a big fuck you to the douchebag fan who felt nervy and entitled from behind a keyboard to wage war.

Twitter user Charlie commented on the on-going situation and offered a standpoint from the trans community in a poignant thread. They wrote: “Trans people do not care that Sarah Paulson doesn’t have pronouns in her bio, we care about the fact that we don’t have equal access to healthcare, that in the UK we don’t have equal marriage rights, that trans women of colour are at high risk of murder.”

The user also added that Paulson’s reply did no warrant the masses of hate the star was being sent her way.

“[Sarah Paulson’s] reply, in no world, justifies the disgusting (not to mention misogynistic and lesbiphobic) comments being made to her by 14 yr olds on stan Twitter. It isn’t that deep, she’s not the enemy, see the bigger picture I beg.”
