YOUNG AVENGERS almost assemble!

BLACK WIDOW Variety: Marvel’s Black Widow is already crushing pandemic-era box office records.
The superhero adventure raked in a mighty $39.5 million from 4,160 theaters on Friday, the biggest single-day gross since the onset of COVID-19. Through the weekend, Black Widow is poised to generated a huge $87.8 million, which would best the benchmark previously set by F9 and its $70 million debut. The final opening weekend number for the Cate Shortland-directed movie could shoot even higher with positive word-of-mouth. As the first Marvel film to open in theaters since the start of the pandemic, Black Widow is already receiving a warm welcome from MCU fans. Black Widow is simultaneously streaming on Disney+ Premier Access for $30.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz, Black Widow follows the adventures of Natasha Romanoff between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. After uncovering a dangerous conspiracy, Romanoff is forced to confront the darker parts of her past.

ANTHROPOLOGY of gay uncles aka “guncles.”

WRITER AND HUMORIST David Sedaris still enjoys getting dressed up. GQ: Sedaris has made a hobby of picking up trash on the side of the road—a practice that has rewarded him with a garbage truck named in his honor. This would be surprising enough on its own, before you learn that he does so while wearing jeans from Chimala and Kapital, two cult-loved labels that make some of the most coveted denim in the world. Of course, that’s only a surprise if you don’t know that Sedaris, in addition to being a world-famous and best-selling author, is also a bona fide fashion head.

He adores forward-thinking Japanese wares from Comme Des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto. He’s a huge Bode fan. “Isn’t that place the greatest?” Sedaris gushes. “The store is absolutely beautiful.” The humorist very casually mentions that when his sister, the comedian and actress Amy Sedaris, showed up wearing boots from Bottega Veneta, he was so taken by them that he went to the label’s SoHo store and bought himself a pair. If you’ve ever seen him on the late-night shows, you’ll know he is an eccentric dresser—his signature look is culottes and a blazer.

Later this year, Sedaris will publish the latest collection of his diaries, A Carnival of Snackery, which picks up where 2017’s Theft By Finding left off. There are mentions of high-grade fashion sprinkled throughout—like one particularly memorable tale of being mistaken for a “tramp” in Chile while wearing a Casey Casey shirt and Geoffrey B. Small jacket.

COMIC-CON Disney’s Marvel Studios & Warner Bros DC Films To Skip San Diego Comic-Con@Home Deadline: Nothing beats trotting out your theatrical film slate with stars before a live-audience of 6,5K roaring attendees at the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H. As such, it shouldn’t come as a shock to hear that Disney’s Marvel Studios films and MCU series won’t be putting in an appearance during the virtual edition of Comic-Con, nor will Warner Bros.’ DC films. We’re still waiting to hear if Sony’s Marvel titles, Spider-Man: No Way Home (which is technically a Disney co-production), Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius will make any kind of online splash with SDCC.

For Warner Bros., it reps their third year in a row that the studio’s film division is skipping Comic-Con. The last time Warner Bros. feature studio was in San Diego  was July 2018 with Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins who offered up an early peek at Wonder Woman 1984. With Marvel soaking up all the lime light in 2019 with the enormous announcement of their phase 4 features and Disney+ series plans, with arguably every single top-notch cast member in tow from Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Widow, WandaVision and more, Warners opted to head to Brazil’s Comic-Con in December of that year to rally Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey.

The live edition of San Diego Comic-Con will be Nov. 26-28, the post Thanksgiving frame. It’s still early, so we’ll see if either Marvel Studios or Warner Bros. shows up then.  When reached Warner Bros. and Disney’s Marvel provided no comment.
