PROUD AND POTENT Every June, companies and brands make a conscious effort to recognize the LGBTQIA+ influence across the globe and honor the Stonewall Riots that took place in June 1969. While most companies focus their efforts during the month of June, San Diego based cannabis brand, Platinum, has been a proud, year-long supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community. As a tribute to the LGBTQIA+ community, Platinum extended their year-long social equity program, REACT, to include a special, Pride-themed vape cartridge. A portion of the sales from their Pride-themed vapes go toward the California and Michigan chapters of Equality, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and bringing their voices to institutions of power nationwide.

Carefully tested and packaged in bright, colorful packaging true to the Platinum brand, and Pride, this special edition vape cart is made with the same purely distilled cannabis oil and high quality terpenes as their award winning vapes. Platinum’s Pride-themed vape cartridges are available at participating California and Michigan dispensaries and contain a whopping 90% THC. Full gram vape cartridges retail for $40-$60 and half gram vape cartridges retail for $25-$35. For more info visit them here.

PETE DAVIDSON is set up to costar with The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco in Meet Cute. Deadline: We have learned that Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson are in negotiations to headline the romantic comedy movie Meet Cute directed by Alex Lehmann. The deal has not yet closed. Meet Cute, I hear, is a wildly inventive deconstruction of the romantic comedy built around the question: What would you do if you could travel to your loved ones’ past, heal their traumas, fix their problems, and change them into the perfect partner?

Cuoco will play Sheila, while Davidson will portray Gary in the pic. Noga Pnueli penned the script. Akiva Goldsman, Gregory Lessans, and Rachel Reznick of Weed Road Pictures will produce with Santosh Govindaraju and Dan Reardon of Convergent Media.

“I had to share this story,” says DeAngelo Jackson who in addition to narrating Being Black in Porn is also the film’s executive producer.   He selected the main cast for the documentary:  Dillion DiazMax Konnor, and Rock Rockfella, an industry legend who directed DeAngelo’s first scene in adult film. “I had to do this for my fellow brothers and sisters in the entire adult industry. I learned early on that if we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything.”

Jackson is the first black man to win a GAYVN Best Actor Award in 2020 and most recently claimed the most coveted GAYVN Performer of The Year 2021 title, from the adult film industry’s equivalent to the Oscars. He started his career in 2009 and is now in his third year as Noir Male’s exclusive contract performer. Jackson was born in Germany, raised in Georgia and studied Criminal Justice at Florida State University.  He entered the adult industry as a way to make extra money in college.  Having never been with a man or woman, Jackson lost his virginity on camera.  He doesn’t regret any choices he has made and maintains a happy relationship with his supportive family who say they are proud of all of his adult film success.

SAD BUT TRUE if there was a reason to grant big ones.

TRAILER OF THE DAY The New York Post says of Sublet: The affecting drama, helmed by Eytan Fox, is about a New York Times travel writer who comes to Tel Aviv for work, where the city and a younger man help him heal from a personal tragedy. Hickey says “the only thing political” about the film “is sort of the matters of the heart,” and demurs from commenting on the current events of the region, contending, “I’m not that articulate, I’m just an actor.”
Hickey adored his character, Colin, because he is “such a colossal screwup of a human being. He’s perfectly charming one minute, then an absolute s–thead the next,” noting that he drew upon his own ten-year stint in therapy for the role.

“For the longest time I thought the goal was to get her — my therapist — to like me,” he explained, “to really, really like me. I have that in common with Colin. Thank God that’s about the only thing.”

NETFLIX ORDERS ANIMATED GOOD TIMES from Steph Curry. Variety: Netflix has given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order to a new animated take on Norman Lear’s classic sitcom Good Times. Lear and his Act III Prods. shingle is partnering with basketball star Steph Curry and his production company, Unanimous Media, as well as Seth MacFarlane and his shingle Fuzzy Door, to develop the show. Carl Jones, whose credits include animated series “The Boondocks” and “Black Dynamite,” as well as TBS’ Tracy Morgan starrer “The Last O.G.,” will create, showrun and executive produce the project. Per the logline, the new animated series will follow “the Evans family as they navigate today’s world and contemporary social issues. Just as the original did years ago, ‘Good Times’ strives to remind us that with the love of our family, we can keep our heads above water.”

Said Jones: “It’s a dream come true to be working with the legendary talents of Norman Lear, Seth MacFarlane and Stephen Curry. We are excited to carry on the original legacy of Good Times — but now animated and a little edgier. Let’s just say the struggle has just gotten strugglier.”

It was Peyton who first broached the idea of a Good Times animated reboot with Miller and Lear, helped by the fact that their offices are near each other on the Sony lot. Unanimous TV head Jenelle Lindsay was pivotal in recruiting Jones to create the new adaptation. “Unanimous is all about authentic partnerships and this team felt genuine from the beginning,” Curry and Peyton said in a joint statement. “Good Times strives to remind us that with the love of our family we can overcome any obstacle. We think, now more than ever, the world needs to see a show with hope and positivity.”

Good Times has also resurfaced recently thanks to Lear’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, which returned for a second installment last December. That special, which earned an Emmy nomination, featured the re-creation of a Good Times Season 3 episode from 1975, “The Politicians.” The updated live version featured Viola Davis, Andre Braugher, Tiffany Haddish, and Jharrel Jerome, among others.

WATCH ‘LUCA’ on Disney+ now! You won’t regret it.

Vanity Fair: In a dazzling Italy some decades ago, two young men meet and experience a sweeping, happy-sad summer of self-realization together. That may sound roughly like the plot of Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 film Call Me By Your Name, but it is also the story of the perhaps coincidentally named Luca, the latest bittersweet animated film from Disney and Pixar (on Disney+ June 18).

The film is about two kids, Luca (Jacob Tremblay) and Alberto (Jack Dylan Grazer), who spend most of their time as gilled and finned creatures living under the sparklingly wine-dark Ligurian Sea. If they make their way onto land, they magically transform—in appearance, at least—into humans, free to interact with the landlubbers of a small fishing town populated with whimsical characters. Luca and Alberto share an intense, defining, and world-cracking-open bond, but must hide who they really are in the presence of judgmental, fearful others.

That outline holds an obvious potential for queer allegory, and indeed many Pixar fans tracking the film’s development quickly labeled Luca as the studio’s “gay movie”—a coming-out story to be placed on Pixar’s mantle alongside its meditations on grief, artistic expression, loneliness, Ayn Rand-ian objectivism, and parenting. Finally, Disney might actually venture into queer storytelling, a vast landscape of human experience that the studio has only meekly (and smugly) gestured toward in recent years.

DREAMBOAT CUM POET Dylan Geick: “It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered, full of darkness and danger they were. Sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when there’s so much bad that had happened? But in the end it’s only a passing thing, this shadow; even darkness must pass.”
