Actress Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men) makes a stunning transformation into Haunting of Hill House horror author Shirley Jackson in the trailer for the upcoming biopic Shirley.

Bloody Disgusting reported, “NEON acquired the rights to Josephine Decker‘s Shirley fresh off its premiere at Sundance earlier this year, and they’ve announced today that they’ll be releasing the film “everywhere” on June 5, 2020.Elisabeth Moss (Us, The Invisible Man) stars as Shirley Jackson, the influential writer who penned classic ghost story The Haunting of Hill House. The film “tells the story of what happens when a young couple moves in with the famed author, Shirley Jackson, and her Bennington College professor husband, Stanley Hyman. The young couple hopes to start a new life but instead find themselves fodder for a psycho-drama that inspires Shirley’s next novel.”

Disgusting, in its Sundance review in January, said of Shirley: “While the entire cast brings endless talent to the fold, this is above all Elisabeth Moss’s show. She once again proves herself a marvel worth watching; her version of Shirley is lively and wrathful. Broken yet whole. Intelligent beyond measure and socially unrestrained, with a razor sharp tongue. Stuhlbarg’s version of Stanley very rarely makes him likable in any way, making it a little tough to wrap your head around his relationship with his wife. Is Shirley a horror film? No. It does, however, offer up plenty of genre elements and a psychologically driven story about one of horror’s greatest authors of all time. It’s as much a love letter to her as it is to her fans, who will find a lot of extra layers and references to her works within.”
