RETURNING THE COW Comedian John Mulaney is getting a divorce from his wife of seven years Anna Marie Tendler.

The Los Angeles Times: Mulaney and Tendler are getting a divorce after nearly seven years of marriage, a representative for the comedian confirmed to The Times on Monday. The news coincides with Mulaney’s post-rehab return to stand-up comedy with a string of sold-out shows that begins tonight at New York’s City Winery.

“John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work,” a spokesperson for Mulaney told the New York Post’s Page Six, which broke the news Monday.

In December, the 38-year-old comic and “Big Mouth” star checked into a Pennsylvania facility for a 60-day stint to treat his alcohol and cocaine addictions. He has been in outpatient care since February. “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” a representative for Tendler told Page Six, which The Times also confirmed. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

THROWBACK  DC Comic’s golden age Wesley Dodds turned 82 years old about a week ago. He first appearing in New York World’s Fair Comics in 1939.

One of the first costumed characters to emerge from DC Comics after the success of Superman, the Sandman seems as much a pulp magazine character as a super-hero as we think of them.

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Bert Christman, he was originally attired in a green business suit, a fedora, and a World War I gas mask. The Sandman used a gun emitting a sleeping gas to sedate criminals. He was originally one of the mystery men to appear in comic books and other types of adventure fiction in the 1930s but later was outfitted with a unitard/cowl costume and developed into a proper superhero, acquiring sidekick Sandy, and founding the Justice Society of America.

A transitional character between pulp heroes like Doc Savage, the Shadow and the Spider, and costumed crime-fighters such as Batman and Captain America. After the World’s Fair one-shot, Sandman began appearing in Adventure Comics beginning in issue 40 from that same year.

DIRECTOR’S CUT How Zack Snyder brought lesbian comedian Tig Notaro  into Army of the Dead,  Snyder’s new zombie-heist movie, one thought kept running through her head: How on earth did telling jokes lead me to this moment? Vulture: “The 50-year-old was stepping into a role originally performed by fellow comedian Chris D’Elia, who had recently been accused of pursuing multiple teenage girls. The allegations against D’Elia had surfaced in June 2020 and within weeks, his agency, CAA, had dropped him and Netflix canceled his deal for an unscripted prank show. (D’Elia continues to deny the allegations.) By that time, Snyder was deep into postproduction on Army of the Dead, which follows a team of mercenaries led by Dave Bautista that infiltrates zombie-ridden Las Vegas to recover millions of dollars from a casino vault; the comic played a supporting role as a wisecracking helicopter pilot named Peters. In August, Snyder announced that he would digitally erase D’Elia from the movie and reshoot his part with Notaro.”

GET VAXXED It’s crazy that half the country is done and the half won’t. Below from NYC’s 2018 March for Science.

SELF LOVE The Advocate: “There are many paths to self-love. For DeMarco Majors, one of them is a bottle of water. The former basketball star keeps a vessel of “intention water.” On it are written phrases like “I am worthy,” and “love yourself,” and “be kind to yourself.” Each of these messages inscribed on the bottle is a benchmark he reaches throughout the day via the simple, healing act of hydration. “I know that every time that one of those is exposed, that’s what I’m ingesting,” he says. “I stopped avoiding all of those different emotions and allowed myself to actually fully feel the full range of emotions I got to feel.”

Depression is an issue that disproportionately impacts the LGBTQ+ community. According to research from the Anxiety & Depression Association of America, LGBTQ+ adults are three times more likely than straight adults to experience a mental health disorder. In fact, 40 percent of LGBTQ+ adults reported having a mental illness in the last year versus 18 percent of straight adults.

As for Majors, he blazed trails as an out gay professional basketball player on the international circuit, and he continues to bring visibility to the movement as an actor, model, and personal trainer. As a survivor of sexual assault and addiction who is HIV-positive, his activism extends to multiple arenas.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD TV SHOWS GONE? Page Six: Actor Donald Glover and Atlanta creator hopped on Twitter late Tuesday night — a rare occurrence for the historically discreet star — to join a conversation happening on social media about the state of the screen business. The 37-year-old actor and director, also known as rapper Childish Gambino in the music world, launched his career in Hollywood as a writer for shows such as Community and 30 Rock. But the biz ain’t what it used to be, according to Glover. “Saw people on here havin a discussion about how tired they were of reviewing boring stuff (tv & film),” he began in a series of three singular tweets — the only ones that currently appear on his Twitter feed. “We’re getting boring stuff and not even experimental mistakes(?) because people are afraid of getting cancelled,” Glover continued in a follow-up tweet with the support of nearly 55,000 likes so far. “So they feel like they can only experiment w/ aesthetic. (also because some of em know theyre not that good),” he concluded.

“I’m tired of being told to change my views by white people who think they’d make better Black men than me.” Donald Glover

TAKE OVER People: Laverne Cox will take over as host of E!’s signature red carpet coverage following Giuliana Rancic‘s exit.. Cox, 48, will assume the role beginning with the 2022 award season. In addition to hosting Live from E!, the advocate, actress and Emmy-winning producer will host a series of celebrity-based interview specials spotlighting major players in the entertainment industry who are making waves in Hollywood. “I’m so excited and deeply humbled to be hosting E!’s iconic red carpet coverage. For many years I would wake up early on awards show days, get my snacks in place and watch E!’s coverage all day long,” Cox said in a statement.  “I dreamed of walking red carpets. Now, not only have I had several fun and amazing personal red carpet moments, I also get to be a red carpet guide for E!’s discerning audience and chat with my colleagues and folks I deeply admire for these very special events in their lives,” she continued. “I can’t wait to get started while hopefully serving up fashion fantasies for the ages, honey.”

“As we continue to evolve the way we cover Hollywood’s biggest nights, Laverne’s passion for, and extensive knowledge of, the fashion community resonates with our audience and we look forward to seeing her shine on the other side of the velvet rope,” Neal continued. To celebrate the news, the network tweeted a mini highlight reel with clips of Cox from various E! red carpet specials over the years, writing, “#LiveFromE has a brand new host. Join us in welcoming @LaverneCox to the famil-E.”

Rancic — who first joined E! as a correspondent in 2005 — announced her departure on Friday, revealing that she had inked a new development deal with NBCUniversal.
