BROKEBACK MONDAY #GayNrd’s daily round-up of smut, sluts, art, and news from all the dirty crevices of the interwenz and social media for May 17, 2021.

WANDA ON JIMMY talks about being out in public again, going on a plane for the first time in a while, celebrating Mother’s Day, her mom’s love of casinos, The Wall Street Journal publishing a picture of her at nine years old, her brother Harry being the funniest one in the family, working with Mike Epps on Netflix’s “The Upshaws,” having to shut down in the middle of production because of the pandemic, Kim Fields playing her sister on the show, watching the news less with Trump gone, and Liz Cheney’s great hair.

WHY SUPERMAN WORKS no matter what color he is. #GayNrd takes the THE DEEP DIVE on what makes Superman, Superman. “Superman isn’t good or special because he’s an alien who crashes on Earth and ends up being incredibly powerful. He’s special because after all that he becomes someone who always does the right thing because he was raised by a couple of decent people from Kansas. That’s it.”

THE NEW Pet Sematary movie being directed by Lindsey Beer might not be a prequel after all. Slashfilm: Back in February, word broke that a Pet Sematary prequel would be headed to Paramount+. Now, things may have changed. There’s still a new Pet Sematary movie on the way, and that film now has a director – Lindsey Beer, who is making her directorial debut with the project and also working on the screenplay. But now it’s being reported that the new film may not be a prequel after all. However this turns out, the new Pet Sematary movie is drawing influence from Stephen King’s terrifying 1983 novel about a burial ground that has the power to raise the dead.

WHAT’S UP WITH CDC’S MIXED MESSAGE ON MASKS? The Washington Post:The revised guidance — whichwas not publicly announced until Thursday — marked a dramatic turning point in the nation’s 14-month battle with the coronavirus pandemic and sent the clearest signal yet the country could begin returning to normal. It was a significant acceleration of the schedule President Biden had set earlier in the month, saying that he expected the country to move toward normalcy on July 4, when he hopes that 70 percent of the country’s adult population will have at least one shot of the vaccine.

But the huge policy turnaround caught senior White House and administration officials, medical experts, elected officials and business leaders completely off guard, and prompted some physicians to criticize the move as premature. Some Democratic governors were angered by the White House’s rollout, arguing the move effectively passed the buck to states and businesses to implement the new rules without any assistance.

The abrupt timing of Walensky’s decision also smacked of politics to Biden’s antagonists, who noted that the president benefited from the announcement during a difficult week when many Americans queued up in gas lines, tensions in Israel flared and markets roiled amid inflation fears.

THE NEWEST Netflix heartthrob is Darren Barnet (NBC’s This Is Us. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) who once again gears up to take over screens worldwide with the anticipated second season of Never Have I Ever, aimed for a July premiere and comedy-horror film, Untitled Horror Movie set for June 12th.

The wildly popular coming-of-age comedy, created and inspired by executive producer Mindy Kaling’s childhood is returning to Netflix after a record breaking first season. As expected, the season is guaranteed to bring plenty of awkward encounters between Devi and Ben as they both try to understand their feelings for each other, and their other love interests. Megan Suri. Tyler Alvarez, Utkarsh Ambudkar, PJ Byrne and Common will be joining this season.
Untitled Horror Movie was shot entirely during lockdown with the entire writing, pre-production, and filming process taking place remotely. The actors did everything from lighting themselves (guided by DP, Kevin Duggin) and recording their own sound to doing their own hair and makeup. The comedy-horror is set on computer screens and found footage style content, the movie follows six actors who decide to shoot their own horror movie as their hit TV show is on the brink of cancellation. In their search for a plot, they unintentionally summon a spirit with an affinity for violence, who starts picking them off one by one.
Darren starred as Joe Farkas in The Last Night of Ballyhoo, and as Bernard in Boeing Boeing, while simultaneously producing various student films, as well as writing and anchoring the campus news show, titled Beyond the Bubble. Barnet started his entertainment career off on a high note when he booked the role of Young Jack Pearson in NBC’s award-winning series This Is Us. From there, he went on to making guest appearances in everything from CBS’ Criminal Minds to Netflix’s Family Reunion.
DEBUT Green Lantern, Alan Scott, debuted 81 years ago today in All-American Comics #16.
Scott is now openly gay and will be one of the lead characters in HBO Max’s Green Lantern Corps. series now in development. Scott inspired this fan art by Joel Ojeda Lopez (Happy 81 years Alan!).

NOT HAPPENING Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno IS NOT DOING A “a new version” of an anime that “everyone knows” in Japan. GIZMODO: Online, people wondered if Anno was remaking Nausicaä (Shin Nausicaä?) or something else from Studio Ghibli. Others wondered if he was doing something like Sazae-san (Shin Sazae-san?) or Crayon Shin-chan (Shin Crayon Shin-chan?). Whatever could it be?

Anno’s studio, Studio Khara, issued a statement denying the rumor flat-out, writing that “it is not true.” Moreover, the studio added that no one connected to Khara was officially interviewed for the article. (The studio’s Twitter account added that Anno is not even currently planning to direct any anime at the moment.)

BARA BOY sexy.

THE WORST KEPT secrets keep coming from the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home. “Surely,” The Mary Sue ponders, “they can’t all be accidents.” TMS: As Yahoo! Entertainment reports, there now seems to be a leak of Kirsten Dunst’s involvement in the movie, with an IMDb credit listing for “personal costumer: Ms. Dunst” for No Way Home. You know … the original Mary Jane Watson. While the credit has since been removed, and it could’ve been posted by anyone just messing with fans, it’s also not even really a surprise at this point.Basically, all the “surprise” cameos of this movie are truly just floating around online, and no one is really good about shutting them down. When Andrew Garfield tried, we all laughed it off.

So why is this such a mess? I think because of a couple reasons. 1. I think they want people to talk about it and letting these “leaks” out keeps us chatting and 2. I think that they have something bigger in the works and they want to keep that under lock and key so this little nod to Spider-Men past can be spoiled. The only way this would work/be truly surprising is if NONE of these people were actually in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But I don’t think that’s the case.

EDMUND WHITE has a new forthcoming book! White’s husband Michael Carroll teased the book with this glimpse at its cover on Facebook Monday.
GTFO Great White Shark Cruises Through California Surf Camp.  Carlos Gauna, a man who spends a lot of his time flying drones around looking for sharks (like thisthisthis, and this), spots a juvenile great white shark near a surf camp in Southern California. Any time a shark is near a child, it’s just a little more frightening — but it doesn’t necessarily need to be. “Although alarming,” Gauna wrote, I had the video analyzed by shark scientists. It may not be as alarming as I thought. In fact, it could be unique footage.”

A HATE CRIME at Bucknell University began with a “crowd of men showed up at the house on Thursday night, banging on the doors and windows and yelling: “Let us in!,” “This isn’t your home!,” “This is our home!”

The Washington Post: Inside, residents of Fran’s House — an on-campus home for LGBTQ students at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. — locked the entrances and watched from the windows, terrified. They called campus public safety officials as the group of nearly 20 men tried to enter, resident adviser Tyler Luong said in a letter to the president of the private liberal arts school. Some in the mob urinated on the front porch and swung a metal bar at a flagpole displaying the pride flag, said Luong, who described the assailants as former members of Tau Kappa Epsilon, a fraternity that was based at the house before it was banned by the university. When campus officers arrived, he said, they bonded with the men trying to break in rather than help the rattled residents.

Now, university officials have announced the hiring of an outside firm to investigate what they called a “horrific incident.” In a message shared on the school’s website on Friday, a group of university leaders led by Bucknell President John Bravman condemned the alleged harassment and intimidation of the Fran’s House residents.

HISTORY On this day in 2004, the state of Massachusetts began to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. It was the first state in the nation to allow same-sex couples to marry. In a 4-3 ruling, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court found that the state may not “deny the protections, benefits and obligations conferred by civil marriage to two individuals of the same sex who wish to marry.”

Writing for the majority, Chief Justice Margaret Marshall wrote that the Massachusetts constitution “affirms the dignity and equality of all individuals. It forbids the creation of second-class citizens. … The right to marry is not a privilege conferred by the State, but a fundamental right that is protected against unwanted interference.”
