And so on one Saturday in February, Celina meticulously assembled a spreadsheet of every court case filed by former president Trump and his allies to contest the 2020 election. From her home outside Baltimore, she coded by date, state, case number and outcome. She analyzed how many lawsuits had been won, lost or dismissed and on what grounds. She broke down whether the presiding judges had been appointed by Democrats or Republicans.
Celina, 50, was not overly hopeful. She knew that her mom no longer trusted the mainstream media to tell the truth, nor the country’s democratic institutions to adjudicate an election she was certain had been stolen. It was her anti-Trump children, Claire Ryan contended, who were brainwashed.
MILESTONE The return and reboot of the Dakota Universe, returning to the fold of the DC Universe sees some changes. CBR: Much like the original incarnation of the Milestone Universe, the inciting incident for most of Dakota’s heroes and villains is known as the “Big Bang.” What had been the culmination of a gang war ending in those involved being exposed to experimental chemicals has now been given a more of-the-moment revision. The “Big Bang” is the unfortunate outcome of an anti-police brutality protest. When the crowd refuses to turn away, the police open fire with an untested chemical produced by Alva Industries, leading to those exposed being imbued with amazing and terrifying powers. Not only has the incident created a new generation of superpowered individuals with little to no control over their abilities, but it’s also created a PR nightmare for Alva, which is the beginning of the latest version of Hardware.
The current version of the character shares a lot in common with his predecessor, still being a former child prodigy of astounding intellect who works for Alva Industries. This time, however, he isn’t verbally assaulted by an elder businessman, but rather physically assaulted by the police. When the police open fire on him while he is still unarmed, the bullets fly off of his suit before he runs his attackers off. That his identity is no secret this time around will certainly be a game-changer for Hardware, though that isn’t a bad thing, especially if this sets the tone for the rest of Milestone’s triumphant return to the mainstream.

LEGEND Al Jaffee one of Mad magazine’s longtime “Usual Gang of Idiots,” is enjoying a rather unusual week. Several days ago, the cartooning legend got vaccinated for the coronavirus. On March 13, he plans to celebrate turning 100 years old. The Washington Post: “Hitting the century mark in age, it’s a nice number” for the brain to consider, Jaffee said with a warm laugh Thursday from his New York home — even if some body parts don’t “seem to appreciate it.”

To mark the occasion, the humor publication is announcing that its “Mad Predicts the Future” edition, on sale next month, will salute its eldest statesman. The issue’s center-spread article, titled, “Amazing All-Seeing Al Jaffee’s MAD E.S.P.,” will note how the artist’s ever-inventive mind foresaw such ideas as the multi-bladed razor and the “autocorrect” function — once described and drawn in the artist’s wry style.
