Star Trek: Lower Decks, the upcoming CBS All Access show, and third new Trek series since Discovery will debut August 6th.

The series is being written by showrunner Mike McMahan of Rick and Morty fame.

The announcement of the series all but precludes a third season of Discovery, originally timed to follow the season finale of Picard in March, but whose post-production has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from debuting any time before the fall.

The announcement was made on Twitter where the creators wrote, “Rarely going where no one has gone before stream Star Trek: Lower Decks August 6 only on CBS All Access.”

The tweet included a video introducing viewers to the cast of characters for Lower Decks, which includes Ensign Mariner, Ensign Boimler, Ensign Tendi, Ensign Rutherford, and a detailed look at their ship: the U.S.S. Cerritos.

Creator McMahan echoed the announcement and instructed fans to watch every single Star Trek episode ever made in order to prepare for the series.

Titmouse Animation would provide further details on the show detailing that new episodes will air every Thursday following the premiere and that the show “focuses on the support crew of one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos.”

The official Star Trek website also revealed the cast voicing the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos.

Tawny Newsome voices Ensign Mariner.

Amazon’s The Boys actor Jack Quaid voices Ensign Boimler.

Noël Wells voices Ensign Tendi.

Ensign Rutherford is voiced by Eugene Cordero.

Rounding out the cast are Fred Tatasciore who voices Lieutenant Shaxs, Dawnn Lewis who voices Captain Freeman, Jerry O’Connell who voices Commander Ransom, and Gillian Vigman. who voices Dr. T’ana.

Trek Yards did a special live stream on the U.S.S. Cerritos below.
