No headlines, no pictures. The front page of Sunday’s New York Times is a casualty list of the people who have succumbed to COVID-19.

It’s also a dramatic salvo in the national discourse of the COVID-19 pandemic. Just as many parts of New York State have begun easing restrictions on businesses due to the Coronavirus pandemic, The New York Times released the front page of Sunday’s edition with the headline: U.S. DEATHS NEAR 100,000, AN INCALCULABLE LOSS.

The paper then lists the names of people who have succumbed to the COVID-19 virus.
