The AIDS Memorial commemorated the passing of Sean Sasser. Sasser became nationally known for his appearance on MTV’s The Real World San Francisco and his love affair with Pedro Zamora. Zamora died in November of 1994, and Sasser would go on to make sure Zamora was remembered and became a vocal and visible face of the AIDS epidemic.
He passed on August 7, 2013.
“This photo is from the early 90’s. The picture by Annie Leibowitz of Sean Sasser (October 25, 1968 – August 7, 2013) was for a San Francisco AIDS Foundation campaign. The jacket Sean is wearing —- one of his favorites — he got during travels to Machu Picchu with Eric Ciasullo. I don’t think Sean ever got over me losing the jacket during one of our trips. While I can’t bring a new jacket back to him, it felt right leaving some of his ashes at Machu Picchu in June. Rest In Peace 😘” — by Michael J. Kaplan
