Princess of Pop Paris Jackson Drops Her First Album and Six-Part Documentary: WATCH

Paris Jackson, the only daughter of King of Pop Michael Jackson, dropped her first album and a debuted a new reality series on Facebook Watch that came out this past Tuesday.

The album and the series were done in collaboration with her boyfriend Gabriel Glenn. Their group is called The Soundflowers. Unveiling The Soundflowers debut EP recently was a somewhat emotionally daunting task for Paris Jackson. And it’s partioinally for this reason that she decided to release a six-part Facebook Watch Original Docuseries documenting the process.

Unfiltered: Paris Jackson & Gabriel Glenn, which premiered June 30, follows the young couple as they live, love, and create music together — and as Jackson struggles to conquer “her insecurities of living under the shadow of the Jackson legacy, in order to find her voice as a musician and woman,” according to Facebook Watch.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter and model first foray into music is a family affair. The lyric video for the EP’s lead single, “Your Look (Glorious),” features scenes shot, directed, and produced by younger brother Prince Jackson via his production house, King’s Son Productions. The five-track debut project impressively mixes an indie acoustic/folk vibe with influences of blues, soul, bluegrass country, and beach reggae. Produced by Mike Malchicoff and Billie Eilish’s Grammy-winning mix engineer Rob Kinelski, the EP also features several video vignettes created by award-winning director Hannah Lux Davis (who’s created sickening visuals for Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Nicki Minaj, to name a few).

“A lot of our music, some of the songs on the EP and some of the songs that have yet to come are about pain. I’m sure to many it will come off as emo and sad, and that’s okay,” Jackson told Out magazine.“But my hope is that it brings comfort to those who feel the way I did when I wrote the songs, especially ‘Geronimo.’ I’d like for the listeners who resonate with the lyrics to know that they are not alone. And that it gets better.”

Jackson says that Glenn had an inspiring effect on her musically: “I started writing around 13 when I bought myself a guitar; I didn’t really start sharing or recording it until I met Gabriel.”

Jackson is passionate about many causes and has vocally considered herself a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Though she has been open about kissing and having crushes on girls, Jackson refuses to label her sexuality. “And I’m not ‘bisexual,’” she wrote on social media in 2018, “I just love people for people. I don’t label myself so please don’t label me. Thank you!”

Jackson has also consistently used her platform to shine a light on various social and environmental causes that she’s passionate about, like when she famously went off-script while presenting at the Grammy and VMAs to bring up the Dakota Access Pipeline and events of racial injustice in Charlottesville. She is also an ambassador for her godmother’s Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, and is proud to continue Taylor’s legacy as a leading ally in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Proceeds from The Soundflower’s merchandise sales will go to Black Women Lead, Black Voters Matter Fund and BEAM through July.
