HBO’s ‘In The Shadow of the Towers: Stuyvesant High on 9/11’ Premieres Tonight

Share

IN THE SHADOW depicts a unique perspective of that day through the eyes of eight former students at Stuyvesant High School, located four blocks away from the World Trade Center. The 31-minute documentary weaves footage of the attack with compelling commentary from these student eyewitnesses, who found themselves in the heart of the danger zone, fleeing debris, and with a harrowing journey home. Now adults, many from immigrant families, they speak passionately about the backlash against minority communities that followed the attack and the deep friendships with classmates that got them through.

You may be familiar with Jon Stewart’s recent powerful and emotional testimony in front of Congress that addressed the Zadroga Act and its 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, which provides health care to the rescuers and survivors who were exposed to the deadly toxins at Ground Zero. Even 18 years later, there are still wounds seen and unseen impacting New Yorkers that the documentary brings to the surface, making this film as timely as ever.

When the Twin Towers were attacked on September 11, 2001, students had just started their day at Stuyvesant High School, a few blocks away. In the Shadow of the Towers: Stuyvesant High on 9/11 offers a unique eyewitness perspective on that tragic day and its aftermath from former Stuyvesant students.

In the Shadow will premiere exclusively on HBO Wednesday, September 11 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
