U.S.GUN DEATHS FROM 2004-2010 Where do Americans die by gunfire? These interactive maps, based on data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, show the average number of gun deaths per 100,000 county residents from 2004 through 2010. Red is for counties with rates above the median for all counties; blue is below median. Gray indicates counties for which the CDC did not release data because the numbers were small. WELCOME TO THE WORLD Quill! Meet Quilliam, the roughly 2-month-old prehensile-tailed porcupine at Washington’s National Zoo. The porcupette, which is the name for a baby porcupine, had an online naming contest last week, and the zoo has announced the results.
Quilliam got 43 percent of the votes. Prickles was in second with 27 percent. And then Quillson (18 percent) and Gonzo (12 percent). About 2,400 votes were cast, according to the zoo.
The name for a baby porcupine is a PORCUPETTE. And we have a new one at @NationalZoo who needs a name of his own! We are asking for your help to pick a name for our prehensile-tailed porcupine born in November. ⤵️⤵️⤵️ pic.twitter.com/Ra5cevxhDK

HARRIS COMES FOR MCCONNELL “Let’s be clear: Mr. McConnell doesn’t want a Senate trial. He wants a Senate cover-up,” Senator Kamala Harris wrote in The New York Times. “Fortunately, Mr. McConnell does not have the power to unilaterally undermine this trial. Every single senator will be empowered with an equal vote on how the trial will proceed. Though in just the past year, Mr. McConnell has used his position to unilaterally block legislation to restore the Voting Rights Act, lower the prices of prescription drugs and address the gun violence epidemic, he cannot wield the same authority in a Senate impeachment trial.”
Congress must demonstrate to the American people that in our system of justice all are equal under law, and that there aren't two sets of rules—one for Donald Trump and another for everybody else.https://t.co/VLrEN0vvFd

REAL TALK About Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker from Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter.
From Variety: "maybe there’s no escaping that the final entry of this series, coming 42 years after the original “Star Wars,” is — at best — going to be less a brilliant piece of stand-alone escapism than a kind of exquisitely executed self-referential package. "

KYLO REN gets a newer, scarier helmet in Rise of Skywalker when asked by Emperor Palpatine if he can be the man his grandfather Darth Vader never was. This prompts Ren to build a new one with blood lava like war paint putting a Sith twist on his Knights of Ren armor.
For the fans that can’t get enough of Ren, Hannibal Tabu over at Bleeding Cool says Marvel’s new Rise of Kylo Sen is “for Completists … A Freaking Gold Mine.”
“To still see the man-boy that would be a Sith Lord still struggling with himself as much as with any external party shows that he’s never really had a foundation of his own identity, Tabu writes. “Is that a failure in parenting and mentoring, the final failure of the heroes of yesteryear?”

BI ERASURE happens every day. Says Blaize Stewart, “prejudice against bi individuals is not limited to those outside of the LGBTI community; in fact, some of the harshest judgment I’ve experienced has come from within the queer community. This includes being told repeatedly that I must be gay.”

BACKPACKS FOR THE STREETS is in the news. Austin Addison at Buzzfeed News wrote, “An organization I love and have volunteered with some since moving back to NYC is called Backpacks for the Streets. And I love this organization for several reasons. Namely, because it helps the homeless, but primarily because it provides ownership to men and women on the street in the form of a backpack with plenty of life’s necessities. If you’re not homeless, you take for granted the use of functioning pen/pencil and clean paper. If you’re not homeless, you take for granted your access to clean water and drink. If you’re not homeless, you take for granted knowing where you next meal is coming from. And if you’re not homeless, you take for granted having access to basic toiletries and personal hygiene essentials. All of these things and more are offered in the standard backpacks handed out by Backpacks for the Streets. And such a backpack or bag can be easily replicated by you this season. Give ownership.
“Huge THANKS to Austin Addison for this truly amazing piece in BuzzFeed NY about helping the homeless, and for the shout out to Backpacks For The Street and the work we do. Austin, you are welcome back to volunteer with us again any time! ” said BFTS founders Jeffrey Newman and Jayson Raitt. Being homeless is degrading and difficult, to say the least. By giving even 1 of these 5 gifts this holiday season, you’ll undoubtedly bring a sparkle to someone’s life. Take it from a man who’s been there, on the streets. Go to their site here.
