Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds sang Happy Birthday to White and posted it on Twitter and Instagram. “Happy birthday to you,” Bullock, 55, and Reynolds, 43, separately sing over video chat in a viral video posted to Reynolds’ Twitter and Instagram Friday morning. The video has racked up over 72,000 likes and 3.2 million views on the platforms, respectively.  The three all worked together on the 2009 film The Proposal, in which the Golden Girls star plays Reynolds’ grandmother.

ATLANTA STRIPPER is charged with murdering his boyfriend. William Bradley Morgan, 37, fatally shot Brian Campbell in his sleep after learning that Campbell planned to break up with him, according to news reports. Both were married to women at the time of the murder, but the two men had been together for a year and shared a condo in Midtown Atlanta. Morgan, who worked as a dancer at the gay bar Swinging Richards, was separated from his wife. But the 43-year-old Campbell lived with his wife and children in Delaware, traveling to Atlanta for his work as a Comcast executive. “Morgan’s drug addiction, his reliance on Campbell, and the overall complications caused by the fact that both men were married and engaged in a secret romance, led Campbell to consider ending the relationship with Morgan,” prosecutors said in a news release, according to Project Q Atlanta.

Prosecutors say Morgan (above) was addicted to methamphetamine, and financially dependent on Campbell.

PURPLE HAZE The sky above an Arizona town glowed purple due to  a nearby marijuana farm. “This photo taken from Snowflake, AZ early this morning showcased purple glow for miles!” the Navajo County Facebook post on Friday said. “The purple glow is a result of LED grow lights from nearby medical marijuana farm Copperstate Farms and the snow clouds overhead.”

PETER STALEY VERSUS GILEAD Staley wrote on Instagram: Yesterday was INCREDIBLY TENSE, as Staley v Gilead had its first oral arguments before U.S. District Judge Edward Chen of the Northern District of California. After Gilead Sciences et al. (3 other pharma co’s) had filed motions to dismiss the case, and our side had filed a response, etc., this was the moment when Judge Chen could grill each side about their arguments.  He had scheduled one hour for this, but it ended up taking over 3 hours! Brenda and I sat in the front row to witness it all, and we were surrounded by local AIDS activists that filled the rows behind us, many wearing ACT UP and S=D t-shirts and buttons.

I’ll be blunt. Chen grilled our side much harder than he grilled the defendants’ lawyers. It was a very deep-dive into antitrust legal theories, especially around the concept of “ancillary restraints” in joint ventures — when two companies agree to work together on something. The companies’ deal has to pass various antitrust tests to make sure they are not thwarting competition within a market.

The agreements Gilead struck with Bristol-Myers and other co’s to combine their antivirals into single combo-pills (the one-pill-once-a-day regimens most people with HIV now take) must add something to the market (which we all agree they did!), but without restricting competition so that monopolies develop (we contend the agreements did just that, creating a near-monopoly for Gilead in HIV treatment and prevention). The agreements included “no-generics clauses” — both companies agreed not to compete with each other years later when either of their meds lost patent protection.

Gilead claims these clauses are just “ancillary restraints” — necessary for the partnerships to work. We think that’s bull. They used the agreements to keep combo-pills with generic components off the market, raising ARV combo pills to obscene prices (around $35K/yr, the price of a fancy SUV), and then sharing these inflated profits with its co-conspirators.
