MEME OF THE DAY Darth Vader takes the Dolly Parton Challenge.

NEW STAR WARS book, Free Fall, puts Poe Dameron front and center. Better yet, it’s written by one of our fave scribes, Alex Segura! Segura told Polygon,Free Fall will answer some of the biggest questions fans will have coming out of The Rise of Skywalker: what was Poe Dameron’s secret history as a spice runner, and what does it have to do with the mysterious, helmet-wearing Zorii Bliss? The book will spend a lot of time with Poe during his formative teen years, where we see him grow into the man we meet at the beginning of The Force Awakens.

BODY IMAGE Why do they haunt gay men so pervasively? GQ reports, “This incessant need to achieve a “good body” becomes—just look around you, honestly—incredibly heightened at the top of every year—especially because of the idea that a new year somehow also necessitates a “new you.” When we scroll through our feeds, everyone seems to be discussing their 2020 fitness regimens; men with shredded abs post photos of themselves filtered through that unmistakable Barry’s Bootcamp crimson glow; don’t even get me started on men with superhero-level bodies posting thirsty shots of themselves with captions claiming they “let themselves go” during the gluttony of holiday season. I know I contribute to the problem whenever I post a gym selfie—just as I know I only post a gym selfie when I’m bored or craving attention. When I’m out having fun, the last thing I care about is whether my followers know I “absolutely smashed Leg Day” three hours earlier.

The pressure can trigger more than just social media jealousy and hatred. Researchpublished last year by Philip Joy and Matthew Numer from Dalhousie University found that “social demands placed upon gay men to eat healthily and achieve a perfect body are linked to anxiety and depression and have serious mental health consequences.” The National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) similarly says that “LGBTQ+-identified folks experience unique stressors that may contribute to the development of an eating disorder.” One such stressor? The “inability to meet body image ideals within some LGBTQ+ cultural contexts.”

JAMES WAN’s animated Aquaman is coming to HBO MAX. Deadline reports, “HBO Max announced a greenlight for James Wan’s Aquaman: King of Atlantis, an  animated mini-series looking to ride the wave of popularity for the DC Comics superhero amid the billion-dollar success of Wan’s 2018 live-action feature film. Aimed at family audience, Aquaman: King of Atlantis will be a three-part mini-series from Wan’s Atomic Monster and Warner Bros Animation with stand-alone stories laced with ecological and ethical themes. HUMAN SHIELD The Bernie Sanders campaign is surrounded by one made up of Millienials says New York Magazine. “A specter is haunting centrist Democrats — the specter of a Bernie Sanders nomination. As the democratic socialist has taken the lead in Iowa and New Hampshire, and narrowed Joe Biden’s advantage in national polls, the high clerics of Clintonism have begun calling for a (political) counterrevolution.”

“People need to start taking Bernie pretty seriously — there is a really substantial risk of him becoming unstoppable if he wins these early states by large numbers,” Matt Bennett, vice-president of the centrist think tank Third Way, told the Washington Post this week. Bennett went on to chastise his fellow moderates for getting anxious instead of organized, lamenting, “It’s not like our phone is ringing from people saying, ‘Let’s do something.’ ”
