Cardi B Blasted for Wishing AIDS on Someone’s Mother

Share

Cardi B’s mouth has landed her in hot water again. This time for wishing that Hollywood Access‘ “f*cking mom catch AIDS, bitch.” The artist had previously made transphobic comments which she subsequently apologized for.

Karl Schmid’s anti HIV stigma campaign, +Life had the perfect response, “Cardi B we love you & your outspokenness. PLEASE be careful throwing around “AIDS” or “HIV.” The stigma is real. HIV rates are on the rise with black, brown and trans Americans, and stigma plays a big part in that. Together we can fight to #EndHIVstigma but it starts with love and understanding‬.”

It started when Access Hollywood ran this original headline, “Cardi B Admits Baby Kulture Calls Someone Else ‘Mommy’ Because She Works So Much.”
Cardi took it personally, as the young mom should have, and began her rants accusing AH of taking her quotes out of context.
According to The Daily Dot, “the Bronx rapper vehemently denies the context from which the Access Hollywood headline was created. Upon learning of the header, the Cardi B went off in an Instagram Live video, which is now causing its own problems for the artist.”

“I don’t play when it comes to my f*cking kid!” she started. “These motherf*ckers, Access Hollywood, these b*tch-ass n*ggas, motherf*cking ass motherf*ckers, I’m gonna really violate y’all n*ggas right now. … They asked me a question about me doing different ventures and how have things changed when it comes to motherhood. So I gave them like a two-minute answer.”

“Things have changed because a lot of people expect me to do so many things… So I’m sorry if I take time out my day that I could be five hours in the studio but I spend five hours with my kid. Because, yes, I could have somebody babysit my f*cking kid, but it’s a wack feeling when your kid’s not even trying to f*ck with you and trying to call somebody else mommy. That’s why you gotta spend time with your kid,” she continued.

B*tch, that’s not what the f*ck I said! Don’t use my … kid for clickbait, b*tch! Don’t cut sh*t off trying to make me look like I’m a f*ck-ass mom!”

Cardi’s rage-out escalated to the point that she claimed she would “spit” on the publication, and then added wildly insensitive comments to the fire: “Access Hollywood, suck my whole d*ck. Suck a d*ck, I hope your f*cking mom catch AIDS, bitch.”

It has drawn fire from several of her fans, including people initially supportive of her.

Among the most powerful was this from *beatbox* My name is Peaches and I’m the Best, “Are y’all going to defend Cardi B saying she hopes someone’s mom catches AIDS???? Personally she’s just as trash as Khia and anyone else weaponizing HIV/AIDS jokes for reaction purposes…”

As Fuck Yeah, notes, “This is the interview that set Cardi B off. She again made up something around her kid in order to get sympathy. To wish this BLACK MAN’s mother gets AIDS is low and says a lot about her upbringing.”

Access Hollywood was definitely in the wrong here and has since taken down the story, and although I understand  the outrage at the comment, I also identify with the 26-year-old mom’s reaction to a perceived attack on her daughter.

I concur with +LIfe and hope that this is a teachable moment for the young artist.
